The Sale of Knives and Related Products ...

We reserve the right to refuse a sale if we have reasonable cause to believe that the prospective customer is below the age of 18 years, or if we believe that the supply of goods to the prospective customer may infringe the Laws of England or present an unacceptable and reasonably indentifiable potential risk to the safety of others.

The law requires that we take every reasonable precaution to ensure that knives are not sold to persons under the age of 18 years. We reserve the right to use any legal method open to us to establish a genuine age of potential customers in accordance with, and compliance of, the Offensive Weapons Act 1996. This may include a search of publicly available information, such as the Electoral Roll or Directory Enquiries. The results of any such search will be held in the strictest of confidence solely for the purpose of ensuring the validity of age declarations. We will not hold or store in any medium the results of any such search, merely holding an indication on our records that a search has been made for the purposes of age validation.

In the event that we are unable to identify the genuine age of a potential customer we may request additional information from you. Often, this information can be supplied online in a very informal and non invasive manner. However, on occasions we may need to request physical proof such as a copy of a passport or driving licence. This information will be held in the strictest of confidence solely for the purpose of ensuring the validity of age declarations.

If you wish to be removed from our mailing list, please let us know at any time, we will be happy to oblige.

Neglect, abuse, normal wear & tear, corrosion, tip breakage, accidental damage, spoilage, disassembly, sharpening, or loss (or partial loss) are excluded.

Adult Collectable & Display Knives ...
Knives are only sold in accordance with the Laws of England for legitimate recreational and professional field use, or as collectable curios. Collectable and display knives are offered for sale purely and solely as collectable curios only, based on their collectable value, antiquity, design, decorative or historical interest, and the name, look or design of any knife in no way implies or suggests that it is suitable for any other purpose.

This website has been developed in accordance with the Knives Act 1997 which sets down regulations for the way in which knives may be advertised. Knives advertised in fantasy, display, or military categories are offerred for sale solely as collectable curios under Section 21 (part 3, sub sections 1(a) part (ii) and 1(b) ), and are not warranted for use. For more information on knife law please visit the law section of your Country of purchase.

Knife Safety ...
Your knife is a tool, treat it with care and use it with respect. A knife is an inanimate object ... it won't hurt you. But a blunt or carelessly handled knife can cause injury. Keep a keen edge on your blade and exercise caution when sharpening. Use your knife with due care and attention, as you would with any other tool, and never use a knife for a purpose for which it is not intended nor specifically designed.

Never threaten anybody with a knife (even as a joke), as this is a serious Criminal Offence. And never leave your knife where it may be accessible to a child, and keep it stored securely: preferably in a sheath or case. It is your responsibility to ensure that you use your knife with due care and attention. We will not be held liable or responsible for any injury or damage howsoever caused.

Knives & Children ...
The knives we sell are not toys, and not suitable for use by children. As parents and guardians, please ensure that you do not allow your children unauthorised access to this site.

GLOSSARY ...

01. Bias forging - 90 or 45 degrees, then re-forging to establish new laminate orientations.

02. Bi-fold -Folding of two's

03. Billet - Stack of steel plates or strips to be forge welded. Also stack of steel strips that has been welded.

04. Carburization - The process by which carbon is deposited on the surface of steel

05. Chatoyance - Shimmering optical effects caused by the close proximity of small, well defined, shifting patterned layers.

06. Cold shut - A visible flaw in the patterned laminate caused by imperfect bonding of the layers.

07. Complex patterning - All patterns where primary or first level procedures are imposed upon laminated cross sections with pre-existing curvilinear distortion.

08. Damascus steel - two or more kinds of steel married by forge welding and manipulated by folding, twisting, or stock relief to produce a material showing a variety of surface textures and patterns when properly prepared polished and etched with a corrosive medium that attacks the different steels at differing rates

09. Decarburization - The process by which carbon is lost from the surface of steel

10. Draw out - The operation of stretching the steel in preparation for folding.

11. Etch - chemically attacking pattern welded materials to create contrast.

12. Etchant - Chemical medium used to etch

13. Exposure - grinding or stock  removal to reveal the inner patterning under the surface of a pattern welded steel

14. Flux - Any material when applied to a sufficiently hot billet, melts and dissolves oxides on the surfaces of the steels to be forge welded, usually, silica sand, or borax.

15. Folding - procedure where a forged out billet is scored or cut then doubled upon itself to multiply layer count.

16.Forge welding- The solid state fusion of steel or iron that occurs when two clean metallic surfaces are brought to a temperature sufficiently high to increase molecular activity to the point mutual electrical affinity forces a bond

17. Forging - Directional movement of hot steel under hammer and anvil or similar mechanical devices.

18. Inclusion - Noncombustible material trapped between layers of steel showing as a small pocket of vitreous material on the surface of the steel.

19. Layer count - number of layers present in a billet

20. Level - bringing strata exposed by cutting or grooving to the surface by re-forging

21. Multiple billet - An arrangement of pattern welded billets of similar or different patterns assembled and forge- welded together to produce compound patterning effects.

22. Pattern density - How a pattern reads as relatively fine or bold.

23. Patterning - manipulation of the laminated material by folding, twisting, re-forging or re-sectioning to produce arrangements of layers with unique signatures visible on the prepared surface of the steel.

24. Quadra-fold - Folding by the four's

25. Reducing atmosphere - An internal forge environment where air and fuel have been adjusted to be oxygen poor.

26. Simple patterning - all patterns executed with primary or first level distortion procedures.

27. Stop - halting or neutralizing  the chemical reactions that facilitate the etching process.

28. Tri-fold - Folding by the three's

29. Turkish twist - Patterns formed by assembling two or more twisted rods side by side, with elements commonly twisted in opposing directions.

30. Twist/Twisting pattern - Any pattern formed by torsion of pattern welded rods or bars
